This fascinating piece of Australian history captures some interesting politics of the time. ANA or the Australian Natives Association was a group of white Australians (not indigenous Australians) that included the most powerful members of the political scene in the late 1800’s who were seeking as part of their charter to gain federation of the states of Australia. With members like Barton the father of federation they were an interesting group of men. Yes men not indigenous Australians and no women. Amazing how times have changed yet also how important this group were to forming Australia’s current political system.

When a dial can tell an amazing story. T F Wiesener was the clockmaker that installed the first clock into Sydney town hall. Unfortunately it had his name on the dial and that coupled with the fact that it was not a successful clock would have been the worst sort of advertising a clockmaker in the Sydney could have experienced. The original dials and clock were quickly removed and replaced with the current clock in the tower. Even finding a picture of the dials with his name on is a rare thing.
